So I was very excited this week to be awarded the Blogger Recognition Award by the very lovely Lianne over at Mrs Mummy Harris (She’s fab so please head over to her blog and check it out). Thank you so much for nominating me Lianne!
The rules
- Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
- Write a post to show your award.
- Give a brief story of how your blog started.
- Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
- Select 5 other bloggers you want to give this award to.
- Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them and provide the link to the post you created.
Where did it all begin?
Back in January 2016 I had just gone on maternity leave and I was quite frankly bored. Oliver was yet to arrive and I decided to find an online space to document the last few weeks of pregnancy. I had been reading various blogs for a long time and my cousin had been blogging for years so I thought why not?! When I had Oliver I quite frankly didn’t have the time or energy to continue with my blog so I deleted it. A few months down the line I decided to give it another go, wiping the slate clean and starting afresh. I was pretty unoriginal with the naming, I just went with my surname! My brain wasn’t functioning well enough to think of something more exciting at the time!
My advice
Stats
Don’t worry about the stats. I know some people are fixated on their stats. Nowadays I rarely look at them because I don’t write my blog to gain a following, I do it because I enjoy it. It’s nice when you check your social pages and see the followers have increased from the last time but it isn’t something I spend a lot of time focussing on. If you wrote good content, readers will come.
Occasionally I do like to have to have a look and see where I am ranking in things like the TOTS100 but I know I am going to be nowhere near the top 500 (or probably even 1000!) and for me that doesn’t matter!
Find a community
There are plenty of blogger communities around. On Facebook there are plenty of groups which are a great support. Even though I don’t personally know anyone in the groups, I still find they’re a great space to ask questions or read advice. I know for myself it has been a great source of help, whether it be tips for going self hosted or advice on the best photo editing software, there’s something to help everyone. If you can’t find what you want, post a comment and you will always get someone who is willing to help you out!
I nominate:
Katy at Hot Pink Wellingtons
Laura at Five Little Doves
Laura at Dear Bear and Beany
Abbie at Mama Wilkos
Gemma at Life is Knutts
Good luck, I look forward to reading your posts!
Congratulations on the award! Thanks for sharing your advice for new bloggers 😀 I’ve found them really helpful!
