I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since I became a mum of two. So much has changed in such a short space of time, yet I somehow can barely remember what being a mum of one was like! Henry has slotted into our family perfectly, it’s like he’s always been here with us.
The one thing that hasn’t changed though is the lack of photos of me and my boys. I’m always the one behind the camera taking photos of the boys. Sometimes my husband does take a snap or two when I ask, but he rarely thinks to do it off the cuff! And the ones we do get are usually posed or the boys decide the exact moment you press the button to move, resulting in a blur!
A little while ago I was kindly offered a 25 minute photography session with Katie Lister Photography. Katie is a great family photographer based just outside of Walton on Thames. Looking through her website you can see she loves getting outside and capturing natural photos of her clients.
The day our shoot was booked for the forecast was for glorious sunshine, of course in typical British fashion, last minute changed to overcast and cold. So we layered up as best we could and headed over to the location Katie had chosen. Oliver had decided to nap in the car on the way over, which resulted in a less than happy toddler when I woke him. With a bit of bribery I managed to coax him out of the car, but he insisted I carried him. Kindly Katie offered to take Henry and so we set off on the short walk to the area she had picked out to take photos in.
We set about having a little play and chat and Katie started snapping away. Oliver really wasn’t playing ball and when we left I was sure that most the photos would be of a grumpy faced Oliver. But when the photos came through I was pleasantly surprised! She had managed to capture him perfectly.
I really enjoyed our shoot with Katie, she just made us all feel at ease and it was all very relaxed. She gave us minimal direction and just snapped away trying to get some natural photos of the 3 of us which weren’t too staged.

First off, what a lovely family you have! It is a privilege to witness a happy and loving family. Aside from the fact that you take high-quality and incredible photos, you captured the emotions of everyone in the photo. Not to mention, the tips are truly helpful.
