Weaning with Piccolo

Weaning with Piccolo

We were recently invited to celebrate Piccolo’s launch into Boots.  If you have never heard of Piccolo before, they are an organic Mediterranean baby food brand in the UK that commits 10% of their profit to food education.  They have the most delicious range of flavours, from first tastes to more complex tastes and textures.

When I started weaning Oliver, we chose to follow baby-led weaning.  No purees, just whole foods.  However, when Oliver got a nasty bout of gastroenteritis at about 9 months old and wouldn’t eat anything for about 2 weeks. At this point I thought I would see if he would have some pureed fruit as it’s nice and sweet, and this would hopefully ease him back on to food.  From that moment he was hooked!

We tried out many different brands and when I came across Piccolo whilst I was ordering my food from Ocado, I knew they would be delicious.  Their pouches have such a nice combination of flavours.  Peach and apple with a hint of basil or banana, strawberry and peach with a hint of mint are just a couple, don’t they just sound so delicious!  I know that I was persuaded when I saw their flavour combinations.  They’re one of Oliver’s favourites now, and he probably has at least one a day.  I find they’re so handy to take out with us.

When Piccolo emailed to ask if I wanted to come and celebrate their launch into Boots with Buggyfit, I was thrilled.  I wasn’t able to go to the Buggyfit class as it overlapped with other plans, but I made it for their big picnic.  Alice, one of their nutritional therapists shared with us mums weaning tips and tricks and some great recipes.  She told us all about how we can incorporate their fruit and vegetable purees into cooking for our little ones.  They gave us (and our babies) a chance to taste the purees and to try babies with finger foods.  We even tried porridge fingers with their purees added in!

If Piccolo are holding one of their free events near you, head on down!  It’s a great way to meet some other mums and try some of their tasty puree’s too.

I was invited along to Piccolo’s free event and giving a lovely good bag for my time.  All words and opinions are my own.

I to went with baby led weaning but I had to use a few purees because he needed solids before he was 4 months old. Those baby foods sound divine
